Finance Committee Meeting

June 10, 2008

Present:  Father Ryan, Ann Chamernik, Jay Chamernik, Larry Dixson, Lily Lauwers, Rich Markowski,  Ora Moore, Terry Sheehan and Jerry Senica

Father opened the meeting with a prayer, and then Larry began the business portion of the meeting.

Larry asked everyone to review the March minutes.  A motion was made by Jay to accept the minutes, seconded by Terry, and all approved.

Larry asked everyone to review the March thru May statistical figures.  Terry made the motion to accept the statistical figures, Jerry seconded the motion, and all approved.

Father decided not to renew the CD but rather put the money in our mutual balanced fund.

Jay explained that after touring the parking lot with the Master Plan Group, the   following plan was agreed upon with alternates:

1.         After repair to the culvert, check the possibility of only doing an overlay of asphalt concrete.

2.         Redo the entire parking lot after demotion of the existing.

3.         Do either of the above in phase construction.

4.         Spot repair the existing.

Lily distributed two estimates from Wharton and Pavestar for work on the parking lot.  The Finance Committee reviewed the two estimates.

Wharton Blacktop Paving Inc’s. report looked as if they were just taking the blacktop out and not addressing the raised culvert.  Their estimates do not take in the whole parking lot.

The Finance Committee reviewed Pavestar, Inc’s estimate.  After reviewing their estimate, Jay asked Lily to contact them for clarification on what they plan to do with the raised culvert..

It was suggested we contact at least two more contractors for their estimate.  Don Antilla from the Archdiocese came out and looked at the parking lot.  The Archdiocese suggests tearing out all the blacktop and starting over.  He will fax Lily his proposal.

It was suggested we consider angle parking.  After reviewing the sketch, it was decided we can’t do this at the section west of the Church.  Jay will check into the possibility of angular parking for the remaining areas, even if it would include the removal of the trees located in the lot.  We need to check on how many handicapped parking spaces are required.  Jay will check into this.

Lily handed out two bids from Diemer Plumbing and Excavating. Ltd. and Wendricks-White, Inc. Plumbing for refurbishing the public bathrooms.  It was suggested we check the petcock to check the water pressure and report back at the next meeting.  At the next meeting we need to decide what if anything we want to do with the bathrooms and make a list and present this list to the plumbers for estimates.  It was suggested we contact a plumber to open the petcock since he has the necessary tools and if there is a problem he can take care of it immediately.

The parking lot light has been repaired by Hucker.  There is no more swaying in the wind.

Football Mania tickets have arrived.   We have already sold 300 tickets.  Lily sent two tickets to last year’s winners and two to each parishioner.  Lily has a schedule for who is selling tickets at the 5:30, 7:00 and 9:00 Masses, but need someone to cover the 11:00 Mass.  We also need alternates.

Father explained the Archdiocese law for helping subsidizing the tuition expenses for our families with children attending Catholic schools.  The best answer would be for the family to join the parish where their children attend the Catholic school.  We have one family with three children attending a Catholic school who want to remain at St. Dismas.  Father said we will help with the tuition for this family.  Even if a family lives in the St. Dismas area and sends their children to a Catholic school, we do not have to help with tuition if they are not registered at St. Dismas.  The final decision rests with the sending pastor.

The Finance Committee is considering recycling goods.  Before we can do this, we must add on to the fence, remove two stumps and pour a concrete slab.  It would cost $54 a month if we choose to do this.  Lily will get estimates on the additional fence, removal of the two stumps and the price to pour the concrete slab for the next meeting.

Lily updated us on the Catholic Appeal

            $40,316 was pledged

            $22,384 was our goal

$29,390 has been paid to date

$ 7,006 is our rebate to date

Ora made a motion to adjourn.  Jay seconded the motion and all approved.

Father closed the meeting with the Our Father.
