July 1, 2008
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This year’s VBC, God’s Big
Backyard, is just around the corner
(July 14-18) and we have an exciting week of faith, fun and fellowship planned
for the kids. We hope they will enjoy
participating in all of the sessions, games, crafts and activities. We know they’ll have a Blast at the opening
BASH where the campers will learn great worship songs and dances. The campers will be grouped into “Crews”
with a Crew Leader and Assistant for each crew. As they explore the amazing Bible adventures this year, they’ll
take part in daily service projects that encourage and help them connect faith
to everyday life. And they will
participate in a mission project for PADS Family Center.
Here are a few things you need
to be aware of and consider for the week:
- The Daily
Service is an important
part of our VBC week. This is like
their “homework.” This is where
they get to practice what they are learning. Each day the children will choose a way they would like to serve
others. The Daily Service will be
shown on a sticker that the children wear home each day as a
reminder. The following day, they
will share how they served others.
You can help by asking your child about their Daily Service and
provide the time for them to do it.
- The
daily Bible Memory Verse is carefully integrated into each
activity to reinforce Bible learning.
And, each activity is an important part of the overall Bible
learning experience. Therefore,
one of the activities each day will involve the children memorizing the
Bible Verses. Attached is each
day’s Bible Verse. Perhaps, with
your help, they can get a head start on the memorization which will help
them earn their Bible key chain tags even sooner:
- Make
sure the kids are dressed in play clothes and gym shoes. We will be playing outside games and
some days getting messy at crafts.
- The
VBC t-shirts will be given to the campers on Monday when they go
home. We would love to see them in
their shirts as many days as possible but especially on Friday.
- On
Friday, July 18th, please plan on being at Hunter Hall no later
than 12:15pm instead of 12:30pm.
The children will perform a short program of the songs they learned
during the week as we gather for our Closing BASH. Please bring along any other family
members and friends to enjoy this celebratory gathering ending our fun
week of learning, fellowship and worship.
- 8:30am
Drop-off and 12:30pm Pick-up is at Hunter Hall. Parents/guardians
must sign-in and sign-out their children EACH DAY at the Hunter
Hall Registration Table.
We look forward to sharing
the VBC week with your children as they enter into the spirit of coming to
know, love and serve Jesus on a new and exciting level. If you have any questions, please feel free
to contact Elizabeth at the Religious Ed Center, 847-244-9510, or email, efallon@stdismasparish.net.
See you in God’s Big
Backyard!
