GOING ON NOW... 

As the Women’s Club contribution to the Parish Jubilee we will be putting together a cookbook.  Recipe contributions are not limited to members of the Women’s Club, and  we would like everyone in the parish,  who would like to add a recipe (or two) to do so.  Keep us in mind when you are pulling out your Holiday Recipes or family favorites and make an extra copy for us.

 

Please type or neatly  write up your recipe, including your name and phone number (in case we have a question)  and leave in the box marked  RECIPES in the church vestibule.

 

Oh, and one more thing...

 

For the cover of the cookbook we would like a drawing of some facet of St Dismas Church and/or grounds.   Anything you would like to draw.  Could be the front of the church.  Could be the altar.  Could be the stained glass window.  Could be the outdoor Stations of the Cross or garden area.  It’s only limited to your imagination.  This request is also open to the entire parish.  Young and old alike.  We will try to use as many submissions as we can to fill empty spots in the cookbook.  The only thing necessary will be that it duplicate.  Please, no colored drawings.

January 15 Meeting Recap

To celebrate the past and build a future St. Dismas Parish which welcomes and unifies our diverse community in prayer, celebration and friendship.

The Landscape Beautification or Planning Committee is working very hard to “fluff up” the St Dismas Parish grounds.  The Committee has a plan and a timeline targeted to be in completed by the St Dismas Jubilee Kickoff Celebration and enhanced by the Jubilee Celebration in August, 2013.

One of the issues in improving the Parish grounds is: “How do we maintain the Landscape”?  Many Parishioners are very experienced and skilled in creating beautiful gardens. Does this include you?  Would you be interested in creating or joining the St Dismas Garden Club?

The Parish grounds could be planted with your excess garden plants.  Many of us could commit to spend a couple hours a week throughout the Summer planting and maintaining the St Dismas grounds.  Does this Hobby Idea interest you?  If so, please call Terry Mathews at (847) 249-5378 to volunteer.

The Landscape Beautification Projects include:

• Forming a St Dismas Garden Club – for future planning, planting and maintenance to enhance the Parish grounds.
  
  
• An April plant drive will ask Parishioners who clean out or thin their home gardens to donate their extra plants to St Dismas.  These donated plants will then be planted in the various Parish flower and vegetable beds in April and May.
  
  
• The Mary Garden will be updated by elevating Mary’s statue, refreshing the paint and selling Memorial Benches to Parishioners in memory of their loved ones. 
  
  
• When the Mary Garden is updated, the hope would be to hold the May 1, 2012 May Day/Mary Celebration in the Mary Garden.
  
  
• Adding a sign on the West side of the St Dismas parking lot so Eastbound travelers can find the driveway into the Church parking lot.
  
  
• Remove the dangerous, dead trees on the property.
  
  
• Update the Tree Gardens, sponsored by Diane and Terry Sheehan and Ora Moore.
  
  
• Update parking sign in front of the Rectory garage.
