Youth Music Ministry
Dear Parents and Students,
St. Dismas offers a variety of groups to help involve students in
the liturgy. These groups are designed so students may enjoy
themselves as they begin practicing their life-long service to God
and the St. Dismas community.
St. Dismas has something for everyone. Students can sing, read, play
their instrument, or learn the handbells/
tonechimes. Below is a description of each group and a sign-up form.
Please go though the group descriptions and decide the best groups
for you. Note: You may sign up for more than one group.
Musically Yours,
Mrs. Angela Conover
Teen Choir
Teen Choir is a wonderful group for students in 6th-12th grade. We
enjoy singing contemporary music as much as possible. Students sing
extensive harmonies and can volunteer to cantor. Rehearsals are
every Sunday from
10:15-10:50am in Church. The Teen Choir sings at the 5:30pm mass
every other weekend as well as Faith Formation Opening Mass, All
Souls Day, Confirmation, Easter, and 1st Communion.
Children’s Choir
Children’s Choir is open to any student in K-8th grade. Students
have the opportunity to volunteer for solos and harmony. Rehearsals
are on Tuesday or Wednesday from 5:15-6:00pm. We sing once a month
at the 5:30pm mass as well as All Saints Day, Christmas Eve, Faith
Formation Closing Mass, and 1st Communion.
Handbell Choir
The St. Dismas Handbell Choir is made up of students in 3rd-12th
grade who are interested in learning a new instrument. Students work
as a team as they learn to play and care for this wonderful
instrument. No musical experience is needed. Students will gain
knowledge in basic music theory concepts. Handbells rehearse on
Mondays from 5:00-6:00pm and accompany the Children’s Choir masses.
Readers
Readers are open to any student who can read. We need students to
read the Psalm verses for Children’s Choir masses and students to
read the 1st and 2nd readings for Teen Choir masses. Both groups
need students to announce songs during mass. Readers for Children’s
Choir practice for a short time during choir practice. Note:
Students are given readings that are appropriate for their reading
level.
Instrumentalists
Any student who plays an instrument at school or is taking private
lessons is invited to play their instrument with Children’s Choir or
Teen Choir. Instrumentalists rehearse with the choir they will be
accompanying.
