New
Business:
1. Annual Parish Calendar Meeting
Seventeen people attended the first part of
the meeting as representatives of the various parish commissions, committees,
organizations & programs to review the meetings & activities scheduled
from July, 2008 through June, 2009 in order to ensure no time & space
conflicts. Parish Secretary Mary Ross
distributed a draft of the calendar based on information submitted in advance
and reviewed each month with those present.
Some additions & adjustments were made. Mary will now prepare the final version of the calendar &
distribute to parish leaders.
PPC
Minutes of May 1. 2008
After review, the minutes of that meeting
were accepted as written.
Because there was not a quorum present at the
meeting scheduled for May 30, 2008 an “official” PPC meeting could not be
held. However, the 3 members present
(Fr. Ryan, Mark H. & Dave H.) and 2 guests from the Spiritual Life
Commission (Millie Seay & Yvonne Spinarski) discussed plans for parish activities
during the archdiocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes in early August. Another topic discussed was obtaining
additional CDs & pamphlets for the Faith Raiser Display. Dave had prepared a summary of those
discussions, which PPC members present at today’s meeting reviewed.
2. Lourdes Pligrimage (8/2 - 8/10/08) &
Parish Support Activities
After review & discussion, it was
agreed to try to do the following:
a. After each Mass in the parish
during the 9 days of the pilgrimage, recite an Our Lady of Lourdes Novena Prayer. Novena prayer cards could be distributed to
all who attend Mass on Saturday, 8/2
& Sunday 8/3, with copies available for others in the vestibule.
b. After the Novena Prayer following the 7:00
a.m. Mass each weekday, the rosary will be prayed
in support of the pilgrims and for healing in our diocese & parish.
c. Fr. Ryan will offer a Mass for Healing, on
Wednesday, 8/6, at 7:00 p.m.
d. Parishioner Mary Bolin will organize a parish
visit to Mundelein Seminary’s Marian Grotto,
which will be combined with a tour of the seminary. This will likely occur after pilgrimage
ends, but will be in keeping with the purpose of that event.
3. Faith Raiser Display
Given that the inventory of CDs &
pamphlets for this display is quite low, we agreed to order more of each on
different topics. Mark & Dave will
select titles and an order will be placed soon.
4. Operations Summary Report – June 2008
As noted in the report, “Overall the parish
is in a healthy financial state.”
5. Life Line Screening
We
reviewed information from this organization.
Father noted that they are looking for a date in October. The PPC has no objections to the screenings
being held at St. Dismas; therefore, we agreed to refer this matter to Parish
Secretary Mary Ross to arrange a mutually agreeable date. – Upon further
review, Father decided to cancel this event due to lack of interest.
6. Review of Minutes of Other Parish Meetings
a. 06-05-08 (Pastoral) Deacon/Staff Meeting
b. 06-10-08 Finance Committee Meeting
7. Miscellaneous Information from Father
a. There will be a Life Source Blood Drive in
Hunter Hall on Sunday, July 27.
b. In order to open some space in the vestibule,
some type of book racks/pamphlet holders will be purchased in the near
future.
c. The parking lot is in need of repair, but the
exact extent of the work required has not yet been determined. Expert advice & estimated costs are
being sought.
d. The parish telephone system needs to be
upgraded. More information will follow.
Old Business:
1. Welcoming Dinner
After a meeting of the Welcoming Committee
& Fr. Ryan in early June, it was decided to hold a dinner on July 26th
for new members who joined the parish during the first 6 months of this
year. Arrangements are in process &
another meeting of the committee will be held before the event to finalize
details.
2. Catholic Charities’ Parish Outreach Program
Dave spoke with Teresa Denny of the Lake
County Catholic Charities office and Deacon Jim Wogan, who is involved in the
program & is also the Volunteer Coordinator for Catholic Charities in Lake
County. Dave plans to attend the next
meeting in September to get first-hand information about the program.
3. Handicapped Accommodation
The
requested book/hymnal holders have been installed on the backs of the last row
of angled pews on both sides of the
church. Special thanks to carpenter
Jerry Senica.
Recognition/Commendation
The PPC wants to recognize &
commend Fred Bacaling for his initiative in teaching several interested teens
& adults to play the guitar. The
basic agreement is that the lessons are free of charge with the understanding
that the students will use their new skills to enhance our parish liturgies. Fred’s work is bearing great fruit as the
students are already actively engaged in our music ministry. Thank you Fred & students.
The meeting closed with members
praying the Our Father.
