COMMISSION MINUTES

Catholic Education Commission - Meeting Notes

Some changes coming this year in the Faith Formation program were communicated to PPC.  We continue to expand the integration of Harcourt teaching materials into our St. Dismas programs.  This year we will utilize the books and teaching strategies in the RCIA program, in the Sunday Children's Liturgy, as well as in the Sunday Family Faith Formation sessions and the Tuesday Faith Formation classes.  Another change for this year is the introduction of Family nights on Tuesdays.  We are dedicating five Tuesday nights to include the parents as well as the students in a total family experience similar to the Sunday Family Faith Formation sessions.

CATECHESIS

Our parish response to the mission statement is experienced through Catechesis.  The process supports  the parish mission statement by emphasizing the personal and community faith life within parish ministry and personal experiences.  Catechesis is the process of sharing the Gospel, as the Christian community has received it, understands it, celebrates it, lives it and communicates it in many ways.  The whole parish is invited to make disciples, to help people to believe that Jesus is the Son of God...and to educate and instruct in this life and build up the Body of Christ.  See Catechesis Formation Process.

St. Dismas catechesis is relational.  We influence each other...formative, community centered, developmental, culturally diverse, evangelical, prayer centered, with mentor relationships.

PURPOSE

Catechesis is a process to guide our parishioners to a deeper knowledge and love of Christ and the Church and to a firm commitment to follow Jesus.  The process offers experiences to...
