Peace Builders

Welcome to Peace Builders

Young Adult Peace Builders

(A faith journey program for high school and college age women and men)

Mission Statement

Peace is the presence of justice and reconciliation which is to be promoted in the community, not simply the absence of conflict.  Peace is fostered by the understanding and engaging the theological tools and practical skills to understand injustice,  conflict and its resolution.  Peace building provides the opportunity to develop leaders to make a positive difference in the lives of others in the world.  St. Dismas Parish is a partner with the Peacebuilders Initiative.

[Though the Peace Builders Program is intended for the age range defined above, the students in sixth through eighth grades will be invited to join the older students in the experiential and social aspects as appropriate to their faith learning level and age.  The 'peace builders' will be mentors to the younger students as appropriate to their respective sixth through eighth curriculum outcomes, strategies and assessments.]

Process

As part of God's plan, every person appears at a certain time, in a certain place in the history of humankind, and then leaves, at a different time and usually from a different place.  Unfortunately, many people do not understand why they are here in the world and where they are going.  The Peace Builders Program sets out the basics of why the participants are here and where they are going as they are formed in adult personhood.  Every person is called to serve.  The goals of our lives is personal and eternal completeness.

The human spirit loves adventure.  The program responds to this transforming need and provides many opportunities for adventure.  Each participant is encouraged to experience and remember why they are here, what their personal goal is and to take as their personal motto, "achieving 'human wholeness' is my most important adventure."

The program will offer each participant an opportunity to further establish/nurture their personal foundation through personal experiential learning in:

bulletCatholic theology and tradition
bulletMinistry leadership/relationship skills

This formation experience will be based on the personal formation each participant has developed/achieved so far in their life.  The outcomes/expectations supporting the participant's evolving formation are defined in the St. Dismas Parish Religious Studies Program Mission Statement.  Specific outcomes, strategies, assessments and resources to be encountered by the participant in the program are outlined for each level or age group.
